iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo: what’s new
At its September 2026 event, Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first folding phone, the iPhone Duo. The Duo opens into a large, iPad-style inner screen, supports Apple Pencil and side-by-side apps, and uses Touch ID built into the side button. In the US, the Duo starts at $1,999, with the 18 Pro at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299. Check Apple’s UK site for UK pricing.
Why repairs matter more than ever
The more a phone costs, the more an accident hurts. A cracked screen or failing battery on a phone at this price is a big bill if you go straight to a replacement. A few things to keep in mind:
- Foldable screens need extra care. Inner folding displays use a flexible plastic top layer rather than hard glass, so fingernails, keys and grit can mark them. Never peel off the factory screen protector on a foldable — it is part of the display.
- Get a case on day one. Plenty of screens get cracked in the first few weeks, before a case arrives.
- Check your cover. Find out whether you have AppleCare+, phone insurance or bank-account cover before anything goes wrong.
- Don’t ignore small cracks. A small crack lets in dust and moisture and usually spreads.
Upgrading? Don’t forget your old phone
If you’re moving to an iPhone 18, your old phone may still have years of life — a new battery or screen can make it a great handset for a family member, or help you get a better price when you sell it.
